A Creative Space - Chi

We’re really excited to be supporting and collaborating with Missy on the wonderful work she’s doing. Her passion for creativity, inclusion, and community resonates so strongly with our own aims at Chichester Creative Art Network.

At its heart, our network exists to bring people together — to make creativity accessible, to celebrate diversity, and to create spaces where everyone feels they belong. What Missy has started with A Creative Space captures exactly that spirit.

We believe that by working together we can amplify the impact, reach more people, and ensure that creativity continues to be a powerful force for wellbeing, connection, and joy in Chichester.

We’d love you to hear directly from Missy about her journey and why she started A Creative Space.

I’m very much a humble hobbyist. I love doing whimsical sketches and dabbling in all sorts of mixed media — from sewing, embroidery, beadwork, and macramé to (if I’m honest) just about anything that sparks my curiosity. The truth is, I’m always drawn to more creative ideas than I could ever have time for.

What I wanted to create in Chichester was a space that is truly inclusive — somewhere anyone could come along, feel accepted, and be encouraged in their creativity.

The idea for A Creative Space grew out of a similar group I once ran at a previous workplace. One of my colleagues, who has since become a friend, told me that in ten years of working there he had never once joined in any of the social activities… until my creative group started. That really showed me the power of this kind of community.

We all know people come in every shape — introverts, extroverts, and everything in between. Add to that the changes since Covid, with more people becoming insular due to cost of living pressures and shifting habits, and it feels more important than ever to create opportunities for genuine connection. I believe it’s both healthy and necessary for people of all ages, backgrounds, and communities — across social, economic, ethnic, and religious lines — to interact and share in something uplifting.

In my day job with a community cohesion charity, I’ve seen first-hand how initiatives like this can have a real impact. My hope is that A Creative Space can bring a little inspiration and, cheesy as it sounds, a little joy to local people.
